EDTE 554 – Internship in Pre K-12 TESOL
Research documents that evidence based instruction positively impacts student achievement including ELL learners (National Reading Panel, 2000). The internship is the culminating course supporting teachers as they design and apply curriculum that integrates the TESOL Standards – Teaching English as a Second Language. Candidates will teach ELL learners in a formal classroom setting. The school-based practicum includes individual and group instruction of ELL learners. Integrated culturally responsive language and content instruction is designed based on the analysis of standardized and formative assessments. Candidates will have the opportunity to work with parents and educators to provide effective and appropriate instruction for ELL students (K-12). Coursework prepares educators to implement the Common Core State Standards and meet state and professional standards.
