EDTE 551 – Issues in Teaching Pre K-12 TESOL
Course Description
The focus of this course is on the preparation of TESOL teachers to understand and implement effective, research based, culturally responsive instruction for English Language Learners (ELL). Emphasis is placed on making connections between current theory, research, and instructional practice. A particular focus is on knowing and demonstrating understandings of students of diverse cultural and language backgrounds, the process of language learning and the context of new language acquisition in the United States. Coursework prepares educators to implement the Common Core State Standards and meet state and professional standards.
